![]() I’m in this time of discerning if God’s calling me to be a teacher of His Word. ![]() ![]() To be a teacher of God’s living Word is not something to take lightly and as many current teachers already testify, discerning if one’s calling is to teach the Gospel is long and difficult. During this time, James is writing to Jewish laymen who as Paul also wrote in 1 Timothy “want to be teachers of the law, although they don’t understand what they are saying or what they are insisting on” (1:7 CSB). As I’ve read through the Book of James, it makes sense why James writes, “Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness” (3:1 ESV). ![]() Am I to blame for believing everyone who proclaimed Christ? Perhaps, but I was a new layman who just started reading the Bible and hungered to learn from others. Who would have guessed that Philippians 4:13 isn’t talking about sports? When I was early in my walk with Christ, I even believed in many of these verses without the context. A while ago I ran across an article published by RELEVANT Magazine titled, “The 5 Most Misused and Abused Bible Verses” As the title suggests, there are indeed some of the most misquoted verses ranging from Philippians 4:13 to Matthew 7:1.
